NOvawLUTION Concert for No to Violence Campaign
A concert for the Quezon City Say No To Violence campaign will be held on October 28, 2009, 6PM onwards at the Quezon Memorial Circle. More than 20 recording artists performing and over 5000 youth expected to attend.
Online, September 24, 2009 (Newswire.com) - The Quezon City Government through the Gender and Development Office will stage a concert entitled, NOVAWLUTION on October 28, 2009, 6PM onwards at the Quezon Memorial Circle. This is a continuing program for the Say No To Violence 1 Million Signature Campaign of the city launched in March 2009 to support UNIFEM's global platform, "Say NO - UNiTE to End Violence against Women".
Some of the performers for this event are: Aisaku, Action Pact, Brigada, The Brew, Duster, Ernville, Imago, Jan Nieto, Lynn Sherman, Myrus, Olivia, Pedicab, QC PAFI Dancers, Sandwich, Taken By Cars, Us-2 Evil-O, Wandering Dew and many more.
Skarlet, a jazz singer par excellance said in her testimony that being a survivor of violence is her reason for participating in this campaign . She also believes that this concert together with all the other performers will help amplify the need to stop all forms of violence.
"Apart from the concert, we have an online signature campaign at http://novawlution.info as support to the current signing done in the barangay level. Quezon City initiating this signature campaign to turn over to UNIFEM hopes to inspire other cities. We wish to have a nation free from all forms of violence ", according to Ms. Alpha Gracias Allanigui, Project Manager of NOvawLUTION.
"We need more people to sign up so that no one woman will be scared to report of violence committed against her. Just imagine that there are at least one million people in Quezon City who will be back her up. We also have free-legal service and continuing education program in the barangay to highlight every woman's rights." says, Joy Belmonte, Chairperson and President of QC Ladies Foundation.
