In 2005, Arizona became one of the first states in the nation to implement a Move Over Law, a piece of legislation that would eventually become ubiquitous. Today, every state has implemented a Move Over Law with only Washington D.C. holding out. Hastings & Hastings reaffirms the importance of Arizona's Move Over Law and hopes to educate those who are unaware of the importance and the specifics of the law.
Phoenix, AZ, February 8, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The Move Over Law was designed to protect law enforcement officials and emergency personnel. Unfortunately, one of the most routine parts of law enforcement, making traffic stops, can also be one of the most dangerous. This is especially true on the highways where stopped vehicles are parked just feet away from traffic. Often the shoulder is narrow and there may be little room for officers or emergency personnel to navigate.
The danger is real. Since 1999, over 213 officers nationwide have been hit and killed while performing routine traffic stops. Move Over Laws have been designed to prevent these tragic accidents.

This means merging away from the shoulder in which the law enforcement officers are stopped. If changing lanes would be hazardous or unsafe, drivers are to proceed forward in a safe and cautious matter.
