The American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) will hold their annual international conference and exposition May 4-7, 2014. The conference in Washington D.C. is a gathering of training and development professional from around the globe. The conference consists of many educational opportunities for these professionals, as well as an opportunity to meet with many vendors at the exposition. Two of the popular educational tracks for this conference include leadership and sales.

This year, Mary Anne Wihbey-Davis, author of "The Sales Messenger: 10 Lessons for Sales Success in Your Business and Personal Lives" and president of the Dallas-based training company Peak Performance Solutions, will be speaking. Her session topic is "Sales Coaching as the Art of Monitoring and Measuring What Matters Most" and will be on Sunday from 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm. Mary Anne will also be signing copies of her book at the conference bookstore after her session.

Why is the topic of "Sales Coaching" important? When companies are looking for new ways to enable sales professionals to be more successful, they turn to the experts. Those experts emphasize the role of a sales coach, which is to take a sales representative's performance and transport them to places they have never been. A sales manager or director must also ensure performance with good coaching and the right training. So they as well as their trainers need to understand the keys to good coaching. A good sales coach monitors and measures what matters and interprets the numbers to help their sales representatives continue to grow professionally and do better at selling. Once a sales coach is doing a good job, they often strive for personal greatness.

Great coaches know more than just sales, they know how to communicate to and motivate their teams. Great sales coaches also know how to find the right people for their team. Coaches know to look for people who have more than a positive, "can do" attitude toward doing what it takes to be successful. Sales coaches train their professionals to learn to be good communicators and great listeners in order to effectively serve their customer base. Great sales coaches know how to instill the three factors necessary for creating a successful sales force: competency, attitude, and skill. Moving towards greatness is what will be presented in the "Sales Coaching" session.
