How to Make Million Dollar Profits with iPhone Apps

Doug Allen, author of "Million Dollar Profits", comments on the a couple of newly released iPhone apps that show how you can capitalize on changes in technology to make millions of dollars.

The core principal of making money has always been the same -add value massive value by solving a common problem shared by many. The iPhone is a brand new technology that is reaching millions. Same with other smart phones.

If somebody creates an app that allows people to easily solve a problem using their iPhone, they will have the opportunity to make millions of dollars.

Red Laser is a super simple application. The apps allows you to scan barcodes with the iPhone's camera and it gives you prices, details & reviews about the product associated with the barcode.
Pros:
-Easy to use
-Quickly scan barcodes
-Ridiculously accurate
-Find "local results" for a product
-Detailed search results
-Reviews from http://alaTest.com
-Food allergen info (if scanning foods)
Cons:
-Mobile websites do not format correctly (e.g. Amazon)

I have found this nifty application very handy when it comes to buying gifts or just comparing products.
The application, when it starts up will display all your previously scanned entries.

If you tap on the lightning bolt icon at the bottom, it will start of your camera and will have a noticeable set of brackets in the center to align the barcode. The brackets turn green (like in the first photo) when it recognizes a barcode & then will make a "ping" sound and automatically load information/prices about the product from Google & The Find as well as any local results it might find in your area. Another nice 'local' thing when scanning books is it can see if your local Library has it is well.

If you are in a hurry and you want to scan multiple barcodes and then just see the results later, there is a way of doing it. When you load up the scanner, there is a small "switch" in the bottom-right-hand corner. Switching it to "multiple" will allow multiple barcode scans without returning to the results page after each single scan. Tap on "done button to view all the scans your just made & tap each barcodeo load the results.

Looking back at the "home" view - you scan history, you have the ability to star certain results, delete results, mass delete & even email the list along with a .txt file of just the bar code numbers. This export feature is great if you have another software program that can use this file.

Just in case you cannot scan the barcode, then there is always entering the barcode number directly.I've found that the scanner doesn't do very well on very small barcodes, so entering manually is the way to go.

Before the 2.7 Update, I found that if you scanned a barcode that was not found, the you were out of luck. However, now it seems that you can add a photo to the barcode to their global database for the company to check and see if they can match the product with the barcode.

Overall:
I find this application very easy to use and quite nice to have along for the holiday shopping season. The only thing I really would like to see - Amazon.com loading in mobile form. I believe they actually had this at one point, but it no longer works. If you scroll through the results, you might find Amazon.com in the results & view the web page, but it won't be iPhone formatted The price listing are quite nice especially when comparing products. The new addition of adding photos of the product with an unknown barcode, product reviews, food allergen look up & the local library' search really make this app a bang for your buck... erm.... 2 bangs for two bucks If you are a bargain hunter, this is definitely an app for you.

Red Laser solves a problem shared by millions of people -comparing prices while shopping. This is a great example of how even when the economy is bad, you can make millions by helping people deal with the bad economy. You just need to be flexible and anticipate the common problems people share, and provide an inexpensive and easy to use solution.

Notice how all these apps either solve a common problem or simply provide entertainment.

And in case you haven't noticed, one of the most common ways people create million dollar businesses is by providing entertainment. No matter what business you're in, always be aware of opportunities to entertain.
