HITRANS Helps Local Authorities Streamline Operations and Reduce Costs with Centralised System from Trapeze

"The transport database has finally provided our Local Authorities with an integrated bus stop management and timetable database and through some expert training and support, has proven to be very simple to use making our jobs a whole lot easier.â€

Trapeze Group today announced that it has successfully delivered a new Web-based fixed route and publicity database solution for HITRANS the statutory regional transport partnership covering Orkney Islands, Highlands, Moray, Argyll and Bute and the Western Isles Councils in Scotland. The newly deployed system gives these geographically disperse organisations the ability to manage all local and regional bus and ferry service data within a centralised database. This includes facilities to provide printed timetable outputs and electronic data feeds for traveller information helping to streamline operations and reduce costs.

As part of their mandate to help improve transport services and infrastructure in the north of Scotland, HITRANS selected the Trapeze integrated solution to share amongst its member Authorities. Trapeze hosting also simplified the implementation and reduced the overall costs of hardware and data storage.

Since launching the system aggregated costs savings across the Authorities have been well in line with expectations. The new software has also realised functional benefits, including greater ease of data management and time table production, the enabling of remote working and more flexibility in the provision of data to down-stream users, such as Traveline Scotland. The process has also fostered closer working relationships between the Authorities and resilience in the management of source data.

Neil Young, Transport Officer for Highlands Council explains: "Our experience of working with Trapeze from start to finish on this project was nothing short of excellent. The Trapeze team handled the project both professionally and efficiently and promptly dealt with any issues which could have posed somewhat of a challenge considering the five councils involved in a project covering a vast area of Northern Scotland." He goes on to add, "The transport database has finally provided our Local Authorities with an integrated bus stop management and timetable database and through some expert training and support, has proven to be very simple to use making our jobs a whole lot easier."

Trapeze Group has an extensive client base within the UK public sector, though this project further extends a newer trend for assisting collaborative authorities to realise efficiency gains without compromising functionality or quality. "Seeing these Local Authorities working together to improve data capture and management has been really encouraging," says Peter Bell, Managing Director at Trapeze. "We are seeing a growing demand for hosted deployments that allow more collective behaviour amongst public sector bodies, and believe that this success demonstrates the effectiveness of our solutions."
