The runner-up, Luanda Lozano of New York City, will be receiving a beautifully hand-woven basket created by a Harkiss Designs artisan, as well as a unique bracelet constructed from natural horn or brass.
"Our Lady of the Season contest was all about giving back, bridging the gap between the U.S & East Africa, and trying to find a common ground through fashion," states Harkiss Designs Founder and CEO Harriet Zaffoni. "These handmade pieces are not only unique in style, but also reflect the individual stories of the East African artisans that created them. Mothers play a significant role in our lives so we thought it was a beautiful concept to provide them with something that was a one of a kind piece ongoing via this promotion."

About Harkiss Designs
Founded by CEO Harriet Zaffoni in 2011, Harkiss Designs promotes their brand with the slogan "empowering East African women one item at a time." Harkiss is based on the idea of compassionate capitalism. Every product is made by East African artisans (most of whom are women responsible for supporting their entire family) in the comfortable and safe setting of a co-op in their community. Those handcraft pieces are made from locally soured wood, stone, cow horn, leather, and many other natural and sustainable materials.
