Last Wednesday, Melissa Arnot, extended her world record for the most Mount Everest summits by any women, having successfully summiting the mountain for a fifth time. After a grueling month of climbing and preparation, Melissa reached the top of the mountain (29,035 Ft.) at approximately 6:55 am on Wednesday the 22nd. Melissa's ascent was delayed after encountering inclement weather conditions on the morning of May 16th, making conditions unsafe to climb. Ultimately, Melissa and her climbing partner, Tshering, made the decision to turn back for Base Camp in order to recuperate to try again when conditions improved. Melissa's second attempt at summiting was successful as she and Tshering encountered relatively calm wind and overall good conditions. After celebrating her record breaking fifth summit, Melissa regained focus to concentrate on a safe decent back to Camp 2.
