FREE Electronics Recycling Event at OC Green Market Sat, March 10

Event will raise funds for Irvine Valley College's Green Team Alliance Student Club and keep hazardous materials out of landfills.

On Saturday, March 10, Irvine residents are encouraged to bring their used or broken electronics, confidential documents to shred and their used batteries and light bulbs to a recycling event hosted by OC Green Market at Irvine Valley College. The event will run during market hours, 9am - 2pm. This event is a fundraising drive and a percentage of proceeds will benefit Irvine Valley College's Green Team Alliance Student Club. This event may become a regular addition to OC Green Market.

OC Green Market & Holistic Fair is open monthly every second Saturday from 9am - 2pm at Irvine Valley College.

OC Green Market & Holistic Fair is proud to partner with two Orange County companies, EcoTech E-Waste Recycling and Green Monster Shredding, both dedicated to reducing landfill waste by recycling these valuable materials.

According to the EPA's most recent report on e-waste, the United States disposed of 2.4 million tons of e-waste in 2010. Out of that only 27% is being recycled. Over 135 million mobile devices and over 74 million keyboards and mice were trashed in 2010.

Similarly, over 71 million tons of paper waste was generated in 2010 with only 62% recycled. Recycling one ton of paper would save enough energy to power the average American home for six months and save 3.3 yards of cubic landfill space among other many other benefits.

EcoTech E-Waste Recycling is based out of Irvine, CA and was founded by two entrepreneurial Irvine Valley College students with a vision of helping residents and companies easily discard unwanted electronics thus preventing landfill waste. In addition to residential and commercial pickup, they hold regular collection events and fundraisers throughout Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.
