Fast Fix For D.I.Y Problems

Financial worries mean more and more people are trying to solve their own D.I.Y problems as opposed to paying for tradesmen.

D.I.Y enthusiasts are abandoning the traditional tool shop and turning to the internet.

That's according to the firm, fastfix.

More and more people are trying to get around the current economic problems by fixing their housing concerns themselves.

The internet has played a huge role in the expansion of the company, which doubled in size earlier this year when they took over a next door warehouse.

"It's over 50% of our business it's been growing and growing," said company spokesman Andy Burridge.

Websites have become such a huge part of the industry that all the big stores now have an internet presence.

Traditionally, Sundays have been the days when people have visited the Do It Yourself stores but the rise of the internet has meant people can browse anytime and anywhere.

With 22 years in the business, staff at fastfix have found more and more people are turning to the worldwide web.

This means customers are no longer just UK based.

Mr Burridge added: "Previously we dealt with local companies but now we deal with people across the UK and Europe."

Although summer has traditionally been seen as a time to do jobs on the house, that is no longer the case.

Autumn is a particularly busy time for people buying power tools and taking part in D.I.Y.

Craftsmen who do work in their garages buy as do maintenance staff at colleges and universities. September is a busy period as caretakers and maintenance staff carry out much needed jobs on public properties ready for the new academic year.

Then the rush is on for Christmas as power tools are snapped up by women as the perfect gift for loved ones.
