The Editors' Lounge hosted their annual post-NAB round-up on April 25th with an all-Avid event showcasing the latest tools for post-production professionals. Attendees were treated to a sneak peek hands-on experience of the new licensing and deployment options for Avid's Media Composer ® video editing software, Avid ISIS ® shared storage, and pro audio innovations— all powered by the Avid MediaCentral Platform, a common services foundation that delivers on the Avid Everywhere strategic vision for the media and entertainment industry. One lucky raffle winner at the end of the evening went home with a copy of Media Composer 7.

Avid director of product design Bobby Lombardi gave an overview of the Avid MediaCentral Platform, which supports the entire media value chain—from creation to consumption—connecting creative professionals and media organizations with their audiences in more powerful, efficient, collaborative, and profitable ways. Throughout the evening, demonstrations were given of audio innovations that deliver on the Avid Everywhere vision, allowing independent audio pros, music studios and audio post facilities to collaborate in the cloud with others remotely, either in real-time or offline. A new universal open metadata schema will enable users to document, manage, track and protect every single media asset created and edited across the entire production and media value chain from content creation through consumption.

"The Editors' Lounge was a great opportunity to share with the creative video community the news we revealed at Avid Connect, the inaugural event of the Avid Customer Association," said Lombardi. "Building on the Avid Everywhere strategic vision, we've reorganized our existing proven and trusted products and introduced new solutions all built upon the MediaCentral Platform."

Avid's principal product designer Robert Russo demonstrated the powerful features of the Avid ISIS shared storage family. Part of the Avid Storage Suite, a new grouping of products that includes Avid's proven and trusted online storage, nearline storage, and ingest/playout solutions, the ISIS family now supports collaborative 4K workflows. Its three storage systems support real-time workflows regardless of workgroup size. The new ISIS 2500 nearline shared storage system provides expanded capacity and scalability, and tight integration with other Avid solutions, accelerating end-to-end workflows. The ISIS 7500 provides the highest performance, scalability, redundancy, and online storage capacity for broadcast and enterprise environments. For small-to mid-size workgroups, the ISIS 5500 provides high performance in more scalable online storage, allowing up to 90 Avid and non-Avid editors to connect and access the same media in real-time.

Avid's product manager for Media Composer Kate Ketcham spoke about the latest developments in Media Composer, which is now part of the Avid Artist Suite, a new grouping of products comprised of Avid's video editing, graphics creation, music creation, music notation, audio post, and live sound solutions. With Media Composer Cloud and flexible new licensing offerings, media professionals will have greater choice over how they deploy Avid's industry-leading video editing solutions—on premises, remotely in the cloud, and through subscription, floating or perpetual licensing. Ketcham also discussed Avid's support of 4K workflows using Avid Frameflex ™, as well as its vision for the future greater-than-HD material within an Avid environment.

"It was refreshing to see the same level of passion and excitement that we feel for the future of Media Composer reflected in the participants at the Editors' Lounge," said Ketcham. "A key part of the Avid Everywhere vision is about enabling media professionals to collaborate everywhere and giving them the choice to deploy and scale their solutions how, when and where they want."

Avid solutions specialist Michael Krulik and solutions architect Derek Evanson were also on hand to answer questions about other Avid solutions.
