Coming Soon: Gabe The Guardian App Your Wingman In Case Of Emergency

New iPhone and Android App for Personal Safety Set for April Launch

Smartphone users will soon have a wingman at their side, helping turn their smartphone into a personal safety device to alert their contacts of a potentially dangerous situation with the touch of a button.

Gabe the Guardian, an application being developed by Michael Monahan, Monahan Consulting, for iPhone and Android devices, is designed to allow users to alert their closest friends and family if they are in an emergency, an unfamiliar location or just want to check-in.

"Mobile phones are a part of our daily lives and daily activities," said Michael Monahan, founder of Gabe the Guardian and a Cornell University student. "We wanted to harness the tools available in most smartphone phones, like email, texting, GPS, and timestamps, and combine them to easily alert friends and family in the event of emergency or other potentially troubling situation."

Gabe the Guardian app has three essential functions:

Emergency - Allows users to send an emergency message, including timestamp, GPS information and a photo, to a pre-selected list of contacts with the touch of a button.

Check-In - This gives users the ability to inform friends and family of their whereabouts when in an unfamiliar place or out somewhere alone. It is also a great way to quickly and easily share photos with friends.

Locate Me - This feature allows users to send a link with their GPS information, allowing friends and family to view the user's location on a map. This feature provides additional flexibility for users who want key people to be informed of the user's location.

"This is an important step in turning smartphones into personal safety devices," Monahan said. "Currently, there aren't enough safety apps or even a 'Safety and Security' category in the App Store or Android Market. Hopefully this app helps spur the development of more safety apps, the creation of a 'Safety and Security' category and even an increase in smartphone sales."
