Comics For A Cure To Help Local Families Battling Pediatric Cancer

An impressive line-up of comedians will participate in Comics For A Cure, an event founded to raise money for Greater Boston families fighting pediatric cancer. Even with insurance coverage, a family will have out-of pocket expenses of about $40k/yr.

(Boston, MA) On September 19, 2010, "Comics For A Cure" will host their second annual event at the Royale in Boston, because, even though childhood cancer is no laughing matter, their comedians will be ready to entertain us for a good cause.

"Comics For A Cure," has a fantastic comedic lineup, including the nationally-known Whitney Cummings, Nick DiPaolo, Gary Gulman, event host Joe List, and local favorites Bigg Nez and Jim Lauletta. Event proceeds will benefit three families battling neuroblastoma, for which there is no cure: Nicholas Defelice, 7- years-old of Dracut, Christopher Mullen, 3-years-old of Canton, and Charlotte Kelly, also 3-years-old, from Braintree. More information about these children and their families can be found at www.comicsforacure.org/heroes.

"Comics For A Cure", was conceived by Tracy Harding, a Quincy resident whose niece was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was only two-months-old. Now three, twice relapsed, her niece continues her courageous battle with the deadly disease. "I can't even begin to understand what the journey is like for all parents of children with pediatric cancer, and I won't pretend that I do," stresses Harding. "I created this event for them. My hope is that 'Comics For A Cure' will raise awareness, much needed funds and be a memorable night of comedy for this very deserving group. They will be able to look around the room and see their community supporting them on this journey... although we may not fully understand, it could easily blindly strike our own families at anytime. How could we possibly do nothing?"

Affordable tickets for "Comics For A Cure" are on sale now through www.comicsforacure.org/events. Donations are also greatly appreciated! Neuroblastoma is a solid tumor cancer that arises in immature nerve cells and most often strikes infants and toddlers. Its cause is unknown, and there is no cure. Nearly 70 percent of children diagnosed with neuroblastoma have advanced stage disease; less than 30 percent of those children live five years. Today, less than one percent of the federal cancer research budget goes toward neuroblastoma and survival rates have not improved significantly in the past 20 years.

Comics For A Cure, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to financially assisting local families affected by pediatric illness and to fund research for a cure through laughter and entertainment. For more information, visit www.comicsforacure.org.
