Athletes for Education and Southweste Sports Wellness Foundation Hosted 3rd Annual Bowling Bash

Athletes for Education and Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation, co-hosted the 3rd Annual Celebrity Bowling Bash fundraising event on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Kearny Mesa Bowl

Athletes for Education (AFE) and Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation (SWSWF), co-hosted the 3rd Annual Celebrity Bowling Bash (CBB) fundraising event on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Kearny Mesa Bowl. Event proceeds totaling $25,000 will benefit the youth outreach programs administered by both nonprofit organizations. Participants in the bowling competition featured local and national sports celebrities and notables from all major sports leagues. Personal appearance by NFL players included: current San Diego Charger Antonio Garay and former San Diego Chargers Kassim Osgood as well as Luis Castillo who were joined by Greg Camarillo, along with Leon White, former Cincinnati Bengals player and Roberto Wallace of the Tennessee Titans and former SDSU player. San Diego Sockers team members Anthony Medina and Diego Rovira also attended, along with special guest athletes from the San Diego Olympic Training Center and Edger Gonzalez (brother of former Padre Adrian Gonzalez). Event sponsors included Scripps Family Medicine Residency, the David and Terry Camarata family, Vemma, LSC Orthopaedics Sports Medical Center, Torrey Pines Property Management, Manual Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Synergy Specialists Medical Group, End Zone Pub and Grill, SportsTek Medical and Surgery One.

According to SWSWF Founder and CEO, Dr. Charles Camarata, "We've been providing services for almost 30 years through SWSWF to the youth of San Diego in the form of injury clinics, scholarships, sports medicine fellowships and pre-participation sports screening assessments (PPE). This CBB event was particularly meaningful as it engaged not only professional athletes, but families as well. There was a very positive atmosphere and lots of camaraderie shared for a worthy cause. This June we'll also participate in the upcoming 8th AFE Annual Celebrity Golf Classic fundraising golf tournament."

SWSWF is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization committed to demonstrating the value of hard work and perseverance for young athletes through goal setting and by creating self-esteem through achieving established goals. AFE is also a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization comprised of current and former professional athletes, entertainers, business and community leaders established to help youth help themselves through support and mentorship.
