35th Annual Park Ave Summer Art Fest Welcomes Title Sponsor

Chrysler Group joins the festival in celebrating 35 years of art on the avenue

Chrysler Group has signed a deal to become the Title Sponsor of the annual Park Ave Summer Art Fest being held on Saturday August 6 and Sunday August 7 in Rochester's vibrant Park Avenue neighborhood. With over 300 artists and exhibitors, three stages of live music and a bevy of food specialties, the festival is already one of the most anticipated events of the summer season. Now, thanks to the partnership with Chrysler, the festival is expanding its Green initiatives by offering two exciting new enhancements that benefit festival attendees and the community as a whole.

The first is the introduction of an environmentally friendly 35th Anniversary commemorative tote bag. The reusable tote will replace over 26,000 plastic bags normally dispensed by the more than 300 artists and exhibitors at the festival. Shoppers will receive the handsome, roomy tote bag featuring an original 35th Anniversary design free of charge when making their first purchase. This initiative is being made possible by the underwriting support of Chrysler Group and allows for 10,000 bags to be distributed free during the 2011 festival.

The second exciting initiative further supports the festival's sustainability efforts. This year, festival-goers are being invited to play an important role in helping reduce the festival's environmental footprint by filling up their reusable beverage containers for free at two new Hydration Stations being introduced along the avenue.

"Monroe County and the City of Rochester are blessed with some of the best drinking water in the country and we think this is the perfect way to celebrate that uniqueness while further supporting the festival's sustainability efforts" said Jeff Springut festival producer. "Plastic water bottles are the nemesis of our clean environment. Over 40 million of these bottles a day become litter or go into the trash. This effort will not only ease the demand on our landfills, but it's also friendly on the pocketbooks of everyone at the festival".

Festival goers are encouraged to take advantage of free water by bringing their own containers for a fill and refill at the two Hydration Stations.

Each year the first full weekend in August brings more than 300 artists from 22 states and Canada and over 200,000 visitors to shop eat and play along a mile and a quarter portion of the tree lined picturesque Park Avenue neighborhood. A multitude of specialty food vendors add to the delicious flavor already found in the many bistros, cafes and restaurants on Park Avenue. The music begins as the festival opens with more than 32 acts performing on three stages.

The Chrysler Park Ave Summer Art Fest runs on Saturday, 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Sunday, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Parking along Park Avenue side streets will be limited, and will be well marked with signs. Festival goers are advised to read the signs to avoid getting a parking ticket or being towed. Free parking lots and shuttles (the cost is $1 per person, round trip) will be available at the Gleason Works lots on Elton Street and Anderson Avenue just north of University Avenue, and at Monroe Square at 259 Monroe Ave. Shuttles will be continuous from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, Aug. 6 and from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Sunday, Aug. 7. Buses will drop riders off at the entrances on Culver Road and Alexander Street, as well as East Avenue and Oxford Street.

New this year is additional off street parking being offered by the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation located at 962 East Ave. between Berkeley and Barrington Streets, just a short walk to the festival. Public parking in the church lots is $5 per car for festival goers.
